Asya is a mother of 5 children. She lives in Al-Hawd area in Taiz city. The on-going unrest in the country has thrown a shadow of misery and suffering upon her family. She lost her husband in the war, lost her home and source of income. Asia felt that this mundane world is not worth living anymore except for the little gems she has: her children.
With unshakable faith, she carried on. She knew hunger is a ruthless monster, and it drew nearer to her family. She must do something to keep it at bay. Asya borrowed a measly amount of money and started selling homemade breads. She and her children survived, but she barely could make ends meet.
Asya, like many other women, is an exemplary strong and enduring mother. She lives in an area where it is common that households lack drinking water or, for that matter, any water at all. Penny Appeal provided a water distribution point for the benefit of the populace of the neighborhood, including Asia’s poor but dignified family.
“Now I don’t need to buy drinking water any more. I can pay my debt with money used for water,” she told the survey team. “Thank you Penny Appeal and Humanitarian Forum for helping the poor people of Taiz,” Asya concluded.
